Fall road races have an aura about them. They conjure up images of crisp air, colored leaves, pumpkins, apple crisp, school, family, and more. It is as much a beginning, as it is an end to the year. Vacations are over, children are back at school, and there is a heightened sense of focus. For many people it is the beginning of one of the busiest times of the year. Perfect time for a road race? I think so.
The Great Cow Harbor 10k is not just a race. It's a nationally recognized race covered by Runner's World and ESPN. Sanctioned by the Road Runners Club of America, this race has been selected as a Championship Race for the eleventh consecutive year. The race draws some of the world's top talent, yet runner's of all abilities rave about the scenic route that runs through Historic Northport Harbor.
"It's absolutely gorgeous" says Ellen Tate of Denver, Colorado. She travels to Northport every year for the race. There is a 2k fun run/walk, and a fun filled weekend of activities for families. People come from all over to take part in the race with their children, go antiquing, watch the parade, visit the craft fair, walk along the pier, and enjoy the restaurants. The residents are friendly and there is no shortage of excitement or things to do.
The 35th Great Cow Harbor 10K Run will be on Saturday, September 15, 2012 and is expected to be the biggest Cow Harbor Race yet. You can register online.
Team Heartosaurus will be running Cow Harbor again this year, and raising awareness for heart disease. Do you have a heart condition? Maybe a relative does, or perhaps you want to run in memory of someone who passed due to heart disease? We are looking for runners to join our fundraising efforts to benefit the American Heart Association. If you are running Cow Harbor, NYC Marathon, or any other road race this fall; join our team and help us raise donations -- run for a cause, run for a family member. It is so much more rewarding.
